JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Former Andrew Jackson High School alum Mark Ivy has returned home to Jacksonville to help the youth in our community.

Ivy, who is the Executive Director of First Coast Basketball Academy gave up a corporate job to coach kids in particular at risk athletes on our First Coast.

Ivy grew up in one of the roughest neighborhoods on the Northside of Jacksonville.

He was first introduced to the game of basketball at age 7.

Ivy says if it wasn't for basketball he might be in jail or dead.

Now he's using the game and the disciplines he learned from playing the sport to teach girls and boys in our area.

Ivy also brings in other positive role models like himself, who can teach and instill good values into the players.

In fact, it was Ivy's junior varsity coach who had the most influence on his life.

As a result, he graduated from Florida A&M University, where he received a degree in business.

Now Ivy is just trying to pay it forward.

Ivy says if you provide kids with good choices to make, they'll make those good choices.
